The news workers at KOIN Channel 6 have been working for two years without a contract and for three years without even cost of living raises. Now General Manager Pat Nevin is demanding extensive pay, benefit, and vacation cuts, and wants to require that workers work over 8 hours a day without overtime pay - all while the company maintains lavish pay levels for top management and siphons profits out of Portland to underwrite expensive new acquisitions in other states.
General Manager Pat Nevin is also undermining Portland news workers’ rights on the job by threatening and bullying union members for their union support.
The combination of extensive cuts along with harassment is leading some senior staff to leave the station, a blow to the Portland community that relies on the news team for excellent news coverage.
